About the Moderators

Lora Hargrove, Ph.D. | Moderator

Lora F. Hargrove, Ph.D., a Baltimore native, began her career as an inner-city teacher before entering communications and ministry. She holds degrees from Howard University and Wesley Theological Seminary, where she earned a Doctorate in Homiletics and a Ph.D. in African Diaspora History. Her work explores race, gender, and preaching, and has been featured in seminary curricula. She has served in both government and pastoral roles and now leads Bokassi Ventures, LLC, while serving as Faith Outreach Director in the Maryland Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives, building bridges across faith communities through service and collaboration.

Heather Miller Rubens, Ph.D. | Moderator

Heather Miller Rubens, Ph.D., is the Executive Director and Roman Catholic Scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies (ICJS).

Heather is an experienced teacher, public speaker, facilitator, and scholar-practitioner of interreligious learning and dialogue. She develops educational initiatives that foster interreligious learning and conversation for the public in the Baltimore-Washington corridor and online. In her research and writing Heather creatively focuses on the theoretical, theological, ethical, and political implications of affirming religious diversity and building an interreligious society.
