Mark A. Chancey, Ph.D.
Mark A. Chancey, Ph.D., is University Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at Southern Methodist University. His research focuses on the Gospels, the historical Jesus, early Judaism, biblical archaeology, and Roman Palestine. He is the author of The Myth of a Gentile Galilee and Greco-Roman Culture and the Galilee of Jesus and co-author of Alexander to Constantine. Chancey also studies religion in public education and has written extensively on Bible courses in public schools. More recently, he has written and spoken about Texas’ law requiring the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, raising constitutional and religious-freedom concerns.
Christine Gallagher
Christine Gallagher currently serves as the Head of Programs and Program Director for Teachers and Schools at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, and Jewish Studies (ICJS). She leads a yearlong fellowship for public, private, and independent school teachers to explore how religion is present in their curriculum and to gain confidence in talking about religion in the classroom.
