Interreligious Lessons from Thurman’s Jesus and the Disinherited

Join us for a study of Howard Thurman’s seminal work, Jesus and the Disinherited and a reflection on his idea of the Growing Edge. Howard Thurman was one of the most influential 20th century religious and intellectual leaders. He was a prominent voice in the Civil Rights movement, and he co-founded the Church of the Fellowship of All People, pioneering the first interracial, intercultural, interfaith community in the United States. Through our readings, we will seek to understand Thurman as an interreligious thought leader, examine our own roles in cultivating a peaceful, pluralistic society, and discuss ways to take action in an increasingly divided world.

Christine Krieger has more than a decade of experience in education, event planning, congregational leadership, and program management. She holds a B.A. in History and Gender Studies from McDaniel College and an M.A. in Women’s History from Sarah Lawrence College, and she is drawn to providing visibility to people who were previously overlooked. She is passionate about exploring intersectionality and building communities across various identities.
