Who We Are
Mission & Goals
The Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies exists to address the contemporary challenges of religious plural-ism by helping to shape a new relationship between Christians and Jews. Through careful and in-depth studies of sacred writings and traditions, we enable lay people and clergy to:
- Reexamine the meaning of our religious assumptions, particularly about one another.
- Question the theological distortions and misconceptions that have contributed to the historical conflict between Christians and Jews.
- Develop resources within our respective communities that inspire both Christians and Jews to appreciate the legitimacy and distinctiveness of one another.
Through our mission and active participation within our communities we seek to:
- Foster the growth of interfaith understanding, cooperation, and respect;
- Confront religious sources of misunderstanding, and develop new strategies to correct those distortions;
- Alter ingrained prejudicial thinking; and
- Create new educational models and public forums that challenge the larger community to examine its core values and beliefs.
