The 2008 Bernard Manekin Lecture

Hearing the Parables Through Jewish Ears:
Good Samaritans, Bad Lawyers, and Challenging Teachings

Dr. Amy-Jill Levine

September 11, 2008

7:30 p.m.
Kraushaar Auditorium, Goucher College
1021 Dulaney Valley Road, Baltimore, MD 21204

The ICJS welcomes Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School in Nashville, Ten-nessee. She is the author of several books, including The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus. A self-described "Yankee Jewish femi-nist who teaches in a predominantly Protestant divinity school in the buckle of the Bible Belt," Professor Levine combines historical-critical rigor, literary-critical sensitiv-ity, and a frequent dash of humor with a commitment to eliminating anti-Jewish, sexist, and homophobic theol-ogies. She is a lively and engaging speaker, so this promises to be an enjoyable as well as educational evening.

This event is FREE and open to the public.

R.S.V.P.
Please let us know if you plan to attend by pre-registering.
