Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies

Jews and Christians in increasing numbers are no longer finding spiritual homes in either the synagogue or the church. In large measure this has come about because neither tradition has found constructive and creative ways of engaging well-educated and deeply committed congregants who make up the "center" of their respective communities.

What is Reclaiming the Center?

Reclaiming the Center is a multi-phase project designed to address this crisis at the scholarly level by bringing together Jewish and Christian scholars, clergy and educators to develop an ethically coherent and theologically credible response to the "loss of the center." At the congregational level, the ICJS will translate this scholarly conversation into educational models designed specifically for use in churches and synagogues.

The Reclaiming the Center project is supported in part by grants from The Osprey Foundation, The Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation, The Joseph and Rebecca Meyerhoff Awards Committee, First Presbyterian Church (Atlanta), The Temple/Hebrew Benevolent Congregation (Atlanta) and Union Theological Seminary-PSCE (Richmond, Va).
