In A Word Volume 9, Issue 1, Spring 2008 Celebration Week Good Samaritans, Bad Lawyers, and Challenging Teachings 7:30 p.m. The ICJS welcomes Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School in Nashville, Tennessee. She is the author of several books, including The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus. A self-described "Yankee Jewish feminist who teaches in a predominantly Prot-estant divinity school in the buckle of the Bible Belt," Professor Levine combines historical-critical rigor, literary-critical sensi-tivity, and a frequent dash of humor with a commitment to eliminating anti-Jewish, sexist, and homophobic theologies. She is a lively and engaging speaker, so this promises to be an enjoyable as well as educational evening. This event is FREE and open to the public. R.S.V.P. Call the ICJS at 410-494-7161 or e-mail Anita Prettyman at aprettyman@icjs.org.
